NEW!Painting: Conceptual Painting - Exploring Color & Composition/Level 3 -4
Instructor: Garth GlazierConceptual Painting is for representational and
abstract painters who want to push further into
self-expression using color and composition while
working on their own projects. If you have ever felt
that your work could be more expressive of a feeling,
an idea, or a moment, this course is for you.
We will analyze the role of reference in building
a painting and the art of seeing the visual designs
hidden within an image. We will explore using
color harmonies, color temperature, value, shape,
rhythm, and composition to bring that design
to the forefront. We will also explore how starting
a painting with a core concept can transform the
artist’s approach to a subject by first asking what
we want a painting to be about. Students are
encouraged to select their own subjects for painting
with input from the instructor as needed.
Acrylic, oil, watercolor, transparent inks, color
pencil and pastel media are welcome. Please see
materials list for what to bring on the first day.

Prerequisite: Must be painting at an intermediate/advanced level.
