Painting: Botanical Art with Watercolor
Instructor: Barbara Holmer
Botanical art is an art form that combines scientific accuracy with an artistic sensitivity and aesthetic. In this class, for new and returning students we will cover controlled watercolor techniques used in traditional botanical art. Demonstrations, practice exercises, color mixing, and botanical studies of plant structures will help students hone their skills in this special art form.Subjects will be provided. Bring all supplies to the first class.
Prerequisite: Students should have basic drawing skills; some experience with watercolor is helpful.

BOTANICAL ART WATERCOLOR SUPPLY LIST
GENERAL SUPPLIES:
water container(s) (Talenti Sorbet/Gelato is perfect!)
lint free cloth or paper toweling (Viva plain texture)
artists tape 1/2”
mechanical pencil HB size .5 or .7 (found in office stores or art stores: Nothing fancy!)
kneaded and/or white plastic eraser such as Staedtler-Mars
Bienfang Graphics 360 paper 9”x12” or other translucent layout paper
Saral Transfer paper or home made transfer paper
Gator Board or foam core: 11”x14”
NOTE: please do not bring huge boards; 11”x14” is the perfect size for 9”x12” paper!
pre-cut 11”x14” foam core is found at craft stores in packages
BRUSHES:
-Princeton Velvetouch Round size 2, 4, and 6
OR
-Da Vinci Cosmotop Spin size 2, 4, and 6
OR
-Any other well pointed watercolor brush
PALETTE:
white porcelain or plastic palette with at least 6 compartments
