Printmaking: Colorful Layered Images - Handmade Stencils

Grades 9-12

Instructor: Ray Seebeck

Students will create vibrant layered artworks using hand-cut stencil (pochoir) techniques inspired by modern artists such as Picasso and Matisse. Through drawing, stencil cutting, and sponge-applied color, students will build rich graphic images using overlapping shapes, texture, and color relationships. This process is especially approachable because it does not require a printing press or specialized equipment, making it easy to continue experimenting with at home.
