Drawing: Contour Drawing from Photographs
Instructor: Ray Seebeck
This course introduces students to an expanded drawing process using photographic references as source material. Students may work from their own photographs or found imagery including portraits, landscapes, interiors, or family archives. Using projection and tracing techniques, students will develop contour-based drawings that can remain representational or become more stylized and abstracted through mark-making, texture, and added color.
Final works may include ink drawings, mixed media pieces, or layered color studies on paper.
Skills explored:
• Observational and contour drawing
• Composition from photographic reference
• Line quality and texture
• Translation from photo to drawing
• Representational and experimental approaches
