About this event
Join your fellow writers this summer as we hone our craft together! We will read classic short stories and discuss what makes them great, covering such topics as: characterization, description, pacing, show-don’t-tell, strong openings, and (perhaps the most difficult of all) resolution. Each day, students will share a creative work with the group for encouragement and feedback. Most of their writing will take place outside of class hours. Last summer one of our characters launched a fandom! What will happen this year? That could be up to you. Bethany Hampton has been writing short stories since the third grade (and telling tall tales since even earlier!). She graduated from the Torrey Honors Institute at Biola University with a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing, during which she participated in several writers’ circles and read at least one book a week for her classes. Her graduating thesis was a work of short fiction. Since then, she has served as a beta reader for several published works, and she has a selection of flash fiction published in the Freelancer: Skies over Tolindia rulebook. Bethany is currently working through drafts for her first full-length novel.
