Students begin thinking about how they use the land, air, and water for different activities, what resources each of these provides, and that the earth is a system. They also explore how water moves through the soil and that the shape of the terrain helps create bodies of water we reply on, as well as how pollutants travel from soil to drinking water. Standards: Develop a model using an example to describe ways in which the geosphere biosphere, hydrosphere, and/or atmosphere interact. (5-ESS2-1) Obtain and combine information about ways individual communities use science ideas to protect the Earth’s resources and environment. (5-ESS3-1)
