Explore the Human Face in Clay and dive into the timeless art of portrait sculpture in this beginning level class designed for adults. Using oil-based, non-drying clay you’ll learn how to build a portrait from the ground up—starting with an armature and gradually shaping bone structure, facial features, and expression. Plastilina, Oil-based clay, gives you time to explore and refine your work over multiple sessions without worrying about the clay drying out. Through step-by-step guidance, you’ll develop your observational skills, learn fundamental sculpting techniques, and gain insight into the structure and rhythm of the human face in a supportive studio environment. No prior experience needed, all skill levels welcome.

REFUND POLICY: To receive a refund, students must submit their request at least 2 weeks before the first class. No refunds or transfers are guaranteed after this time. To withdraw from a class, you are required to email ChastainArts@AtlantaGA.gov and include your name, the class name, and your reason for withdrawal. The option to accept an account credit for the class withdrawal is preferred. If a withdrawal/refund is requested after 2 weeks prior to or after the class has begun, a $30 administration fee will be deducted and only an account credit will be processed to be used for future class registrations, clay purchases, and future purchases in our gift shop & gallery. If a class has begun at minimum enrollment, we cannot process refunds or credits after the first class has already started. If you register for a class after the session has begun, only an account credit will be processed if a withdrawal is requested. Anyone registered for a figure class with a model will be required to pay the model fee on the first day of class with cash or check to the instructor. Even if you request a withdrawal after the first day of class, you will be required to pay the model fee calculated based on enrollment on the first-class meeting. The Chastain Arts Center is not responsible for classes missed due to student absences. Please discuss any unavoidable absences with your instructor.
