INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING & PAINTING: COMPOSITION, FORM, & COLOR /Jamie Ballay
Fridays from 10 AM - 1 PMJuly 10th - August 21st*NO CLASS 7/37 Weeks
Class Fee: $225

Using a combination of dry and water-based materials this class will explore the process of picture making. We will work directly from observation and photo references to explore still life, portraits and landscape subjects. Our first priority will be discussing and creating strong compositions. For this we will work with various approaches such as thumbnails and Notans to explore composition. At first the work will embrace quick studies which become the foundations for more considered projects. Along the way we will discuss creating form and utilizing color. For the first class come prepared to work in charcoal to start with and during the first session we will have a discussion about other materials and mediums. After the first class students are welcome to choose their preferred method or switch between the various materials.

REFUND POLICY: To receive a refund, students must submit their request at least 2 weeks before the first class. No refunds or transfers are guaranteed after this time. To withdraw from a class, you are required to email ChastainArts@AtlantaGA.gov and include your name, the class name, and your reason for withdrawal. The option to accept an account credit for the class withdrawal is preferred. If a withdrawal/refund is requested after 2 weeks prior to or after the class has begun, a $30 administration fee will be deducted and only an account credit will be processed to be used for future class registrations, clay purchases, and future purchases in our gift shop & gallery. If a class is running at minimum enrollment, we cannot process refunds or credits within 1 week of the class starting. If you register for a class after the session has begun, only an account credit will be processed if a withdrawal is requested. Anyone registered for a figure class with a model will be required to pay the model fee on the first day of class with cash or check to the instructor. Even if you request a withdrawal after the first day of class, you will be required to pay the model fee calculated based on enrollment on the first-class meeting. The Chastain Arts Center is not responsible for classes missed due to student absences and the student is not eligible to receive a refund or credit for any missed classes due to a student absence. Please discuss any unavoidable absences with your instructor
