Ages 8+ & an Adult. This structured strength class introduces parents and children to strength training with a focus on two primary movement patterns: the squat and the overhead press. Using a barbell and age-appropriate loading, learn proper setup, bracing, bar path, and positioning to perform each lift safely and efficiently.
Classes emphasize movement quality, progressive loading, and technique. Instruction includes a warm-up, followed by coached working sets, and ends with a fun accessory. Parents and children train alongside each other, learning consistent cues and standards while reinforcing safe equipment handling.
This class is appropriate for beginners and those looking to build a solid technical foundation in barbell lifting, and is perfect for families who want to build healthy habits, boost confidence, and make strength training a shared adventure. Jeff is a USA Weightlifting National Coach, a USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coaching Instructor, and has been coaching weightlifting since 2008. He holds a masters degree in exercise physiology from Eastern Michigan University. With over 10,000 hours of Group and Private training under his belt, Jeff enjoys finding the path to success for each individual ranging from those who begin with extreme limitations to competitive athletes.
Joelle is a USA Weightlifting National Coach and a nationally competitive lifter. She has a BA in Psychology and Child Development and a MA in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine. She loves sharing her passion for weightlifting with all ages, and takes pride in watching the transformation people experience when they discover their own strength.
