About the Instructor:
Deb’s classes are formatted much like she was taught at the art institute which involves learning as much about the art as the technique used in creating it. Her classes focus on a specific artist, concept, season, period or artist. The first class involves a discussion about the concept and art/artists associated with it. At each class, artists are presented with a piece of art produced by various mediums from the theme and in most cases, a photo study to guide their practice. She typically shares a video of the painting technique, narrated in the classroom, and a handout with sequencing guides. At the end of the class artists share their paintings to show how one subject can be interpreted in many ways. These studies can be used by the artists to develop their practice, enlarging their paintings, incorporating multimedia, or discovering the subject with different mediums such a pastel, oil, acrylic or collage. Deb’s classes focus on the stories behind the paintings as much as the techniques in creating the painting.
