This class is focused on introducing sailors to the world of dinghy sailboat racing with coach Andrew Watters. Utilizing 420s & FJs, sailors will learn how to skipper, crew, and know general principles of short-course dinghy racing. These classes will be tailored towards the goals of the individuals, but will focus primarily on fleet racing skills development. Other skills will include learning about spinnakers, trapeze work, team racing, match racing, and racing tactics. Age range: 10–75 years old Skill level: Participants should already understand sailing fundamentals—how to launch and land, tack and jibe, and trim sails. Class format: The chalk talk portion will cover the rules of racing and basic tactics. On the water, you’ll practice race starts (a key skill for competitiveness!) and then participate in a mini-regatta—a series of short races.
