Instructor: Walt Kubilius is a retired geologist from the Savannah River Site. He has been teaching LLC classes on various science and history topics since 2011. Description: Now that NASA is planning to return to the Moon, we will do the same. This slide-illustrated two-session class will trace how the scientific understanding of the Moon’s nature and origin evolved from the pre-spaceflight years, through the Space Race, and into the post-Apollo era. We’ll explore the moon’s surface using lander and orbital photos and discuss NASA’s plans for a Moon base program.
