About this event
Instructor: Pam Kolb attended Clemson University for 3 years to study ornamental horticulture before transferring to Seattle University, where she earned a BS in Biology. Following graduation, she worked at Fred Hutchinson Research Foundation, the University of Washington, for 30 years and at Lifespan Biosciences as a Research Biologist. She loves to grow plants. Description: The Hobby Greenhouse: a gardener’s friend. This talk will outline factors that should be considered when planning and assembling a greenhouse for general or specialized plants. We will talk about size, site choice, foundation, frame, glazing, venting, cooling, heating, benches, floor materials, electrical outlets, water, shade cloth, and misting systems. The example used in the talk is a 20’ x 20’ greenhouse designed to grow tropical plants such as anthuriums and orchids, but it is also used for starting vegetable seeds and overwintering patio plants. The kit was manufactured to my specifications and assembled by my husband and me.
