Instructor: Alexia Jones Helsley, Senior Instructor of History and University Archivist, teaches, among other topics, South Carolina history at USCA. Her latest publication is a study of Rebecca Motte and the American Revolution. A former president of the SC Historical Association, she currently chairs the Old Exchange Commission and lectures on the revolution in South Carolina. Description: The American Revolution was a time of great conflict and change in South Carolina. This short course examines the life and familial connections of one woman, Rebecca Brewton Motte. Motte suffered great losses during the war – her home, husband, brother and more – but never wavered in her support for the cause of American independence.
