About this event

Description

Exploring voice can lead to greater freedom, creativity, and joy in the ways you relate to yourself and to the world outside. Back by popular demand, this new series of six 2-hour weekly workshops, offered through the Conservatory’s Centre for Music Wellness, combines exploring the voice as our first and most natural instrument, with enhancing how we listen within ourselves, to each other, and our environment, and with the use of improvisational skills in daily life. When applied to making music, these life skills can facilitate greater expression and ease while playing practically any musical instrument.

Instructor Viviane Houle is a vocalist, improviser, visual artist and psychotherapist based in Victoria. She has performed with Vancouver Opera and the Vancouver Symphony and at a number of leading festivals including the Vancouver Jazz Festival and the Vancouver International PUSH Festival. Viviane has performed with the brightest figures in contemporary and improvised music and studied directly with greats Pauline Oliveros, Richard Armstrong and Phil Minton.
Please wear loose layered clothing and bring a water bottle. We will be sitting on chairs, standing and moving gently in the space. No prior experience required in singing or improvisation. Participants are encouraged to bring their curiosity about sound and the full expressive potential of the human voice.
VCM’s Centre for Music Wellness programming is generously sponsored by PARC Retirement Living.
