Description
Join a naturalist on a 4-5 mile guided hike to explore the natural history of the Colossal cave area. Get an up-close and hands-on look at the complex geologic story that has unfolded in the foothills of the Rincon Mountains. We’ll also explore the interesting and diverse flora and fauna of the area. This hike has moderate elevation gain and some rocky terrain. Trekking poles are recommended and confidence on varied terrain is a must. Bring your lunch and plenty of water. From East Tucson - Take 22nd Street to Old Spanish Trail and turn south, follow it about 17 miles to the Park entrance. From I-10 take exit 279 (the Vail/Wentworth exit), turn north on Colossal Cave Road and follow the signs for about 7 miles to the Park entrance. When you enter the park bear right and follow signs to Posta Quemada Ranch.
For hikes and birding walks the group meets at the Cowboy Statue and Picnic Area which is just before you get to La Posta Quemada Ranch buildings. Sections of the trail are steep and rocky. Please carry water and wear sturdy hiking shoes.
