Snazzy Surfaces (ceramics/pottery) Ages 18 & Up
Pre-Requisite: Prior Clay Experience

Ever wonder how you can make your clay projects more interesting? The answer is Surface Treatments! Learn how to transfer a pattern onto your clay, use various tools to carve, add sprigging to your work and do additions to build up your work sculpturally. You will also learn how to apply decals and combine them in interesting ways with glaze. In addition, you will earn how to use slips. We will explore slip trailing to create a raised surface, and how to color our slip. Finally, you will play with Sgrafitto on our work. This is a very satisfying technique in which slip is applied and then carved through to create a contracting design. These techniques can be applied to whatever form you make in class. You will be able to glaze and fire your work during this class. Additional costs on the first day of class, payable to the instructor: Clay-$25, Materials fee-$10. Student supplies own tools.
