About this event

Our Rattlesnake Avoidance Training is a necessity for local pet guardians, especially those that find themselves in areas with an increased amount of snake activity, to prevent an expensive and potentially deadly snake bite. This class will teach your dog to keep their nose out of a rattlesnake’s business by stimulating their senses under the guidance of Arizona Animal Experts, Inc. For this, we use the more effective approach of avoidance training by using live wild-caught rattlesnakes who still have their innate mannerisms, tendencies, and scent. Keeping those wild patterns of movement as genuine as possible is imperative because they will be identical to what you and your dog may encounter in the wild. Alternative training options can be provided upon request to amendoza@hssaz.org. When purchasing tickets online, one ticket is required for each dog enrolled in the class. Dogs must be at least 6 months of age and in good health; proof of current vaccinations must be provided at class to participate. Tuition for training is $125 per dog. If registering a second dog the fee is $105. There must be at least one handler per dog and retractable leashes are not allowed. All dog breeds are welcome! The $75 refresher ticket is for any dog that has been through the HSSA Rattlesnake Avoidance in the last 2 years and needs to refresh their training. When purchasing tickets for a refresher for more than one dog, each dog will need a refresher ticket. Contact: For additional information, alternate training methods, and other questions, please email amendoza@hssaz.org or call 520-327-6088 ext. 193 with any questions.
