Jun 24-26: Intro to Building Science - Tiny House Insulation

Hammerstone • 3285 Jacksonville Rd. TrumansburgNY  14886 Organized by Hammerstone: Carpentry for Women, LLC

About this event

Prerequisite: Our 2-day basic skills course or an exception from Hammerstone is required to take this course. Overview: Houses have many purposes: to keep the rain and snow out, to protect you and your belongings, and to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.  There are two ways to stay warm: to produce more heat, and to keep the existing heat in.  Since the oil crisis of the 1970's, homebuilders have been focusing increasingly on keeping heat in by insulating our structures.  Since then, building scientists have studied the best ways to keep heat in a building while maintaining air quality and the integrity of building systems. In this class, we will learn the theory and practice of insulation and energy efficiency in homes while insulating the tiny house begun in the framing class earlier this summer.  We will discuss the pros and cons of a variety of insulation types, as well as air and vapor barriers, and air quality control. Students under 18 may attend with parental permission
