Description
Come learn Sgrafitto! This fun technique will take your pottery to a new artistic level but NO ARTISTIC EXPERIENCE is needed. Sgraffito (in Italian means "to scratch") is a decorating pottery technique produced by applying layers of color underglaze to greenware pottery and then scratching off parts of the layer(s) to create contrasting images, patterns and texture and reveal the clay color underneath.
We will use graphics and tracing paper to transfer your image onto your clay. We will practice on two "green" 4x4 tiles before working on two 8x8 tiles. We will also make a pendant just for fun. You are welcome to use any of your own greenware pots instead. After bisque firing you will apply a clear glaze to your work in ceramics lab offered on Wednesdays.
Please wear clothes you can get messy in. Lab fee is included in the registration fee.
