Explore rust dyeing and shibori vat dyeing on found textiles. The focus will be learning shibori techniques and vat dyeing with Fiber Reactive dyes. Students will start a bin of rust dyes on day one and be able to overdye these items on days 2 & 3. Kathy has an amazing collection of rusty metal to use. Kathy and Nancy have collected and scoured lots of vintage fabric for everyone to over dye – mostly cottons, some linen, some clothes. Students can bring their own items to dye that are cotton, linen, silk or wool. Please do not bring any Jersey materials. A great class for quilters, art quilters, clothes makers – anyone who likes to sew by machine or by hand! Participants are encouraged to bring lunch and snacks and beverages – (for you and/or to share) and wear old clothes and old comfortable shoes, sun hat and sunglasses as you will be outside for the class. Participants should also have a current tetanus shot since you will be working with rusted metal. The class will be held at a private studio in the Town of Telluride; the address is shared upon registration.
