About this event

Description

This class is for novice fusers as well as experienced ones. The class session will last for three calendar months. During the session, no new students will be accepted. Class size is limited to six (6) beginning students and two (2) experienced ones.
In addition to the $33.00 monthly class fee to the center, beginners will pay a one-time materials fee of $75.00 payable to the instructor at the first class. The materials fee includes all glass and firing fees. Projects will include small decorative items such as plates, tiles, nightlights and jewelry. Tools and equipment will be available to beginners for use in class. Experienced fusers are not required to pay the materials fee but must provide their own glass and glass cutters. A limited amount of fusible glass is available for purchase from the instructor. Scrap glass is available at no cost. Stained glass cannot be used for fusing.
The instructor will take all projects home to be fired and will return the projects the following week. (If a student has a kiln at home, they may complete the project in class and take it to their own kiln for firing.)
If experienced fusers want the instructor to fire their projects, a small firing fee will be charged. Firing fees range from $5.00 per firing in a small kiln and $10.00 per firing in a large kiln. Full fuse, slump firing into a mold, and fire polish are separate firings.
Class will be on Wednesdays 2:00-4:30 pm for a session of three months. Depending on the project, some classes may not last the full two and a half hours. No new students will be accepted until the session ends. Students in this class may register for subsequent three-month sessions only if the incoming class is not filled. Returning students do not have to pay the $75 materials fee, but must provide their own glass cutter and glass and pay for firings.
All students will be instructed in COE, behavior of glass in stages of firing, annealing, cold working, types of accessory glass, and other subjects as may be appropriate. Glass cutting will be taught as needed.
Please note that closed-toe shoes must be worn in class.
