Stratford Preparatory School • 3800 Blackford Avenue San JoseCA  95117 Organized by Stratford Schools

About this event

This intense course is designed for students entering Grade 9. The goal of this course is to prepare students for high school Honors Algebra 2 + Trigonometry or for potential exemption from freshman Algebra 2 + Trigonometry. This summer course covers a year’s worth of content in six weeks. Each class is 4 hours long and students are assigned 2 - 3 hours of mandatory daily homework and self-study exercises. Students take a quiz or test daily to assess mastery of completed subject material. Formal assessments include one midterm and one final examination. This class will give students a deeper understanding of functions and their real-world applications. Particular attention will be given to linear, quadratic, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. The course will also introduce the concept of complex numbers. Students will learn to work with systems of equations, trigonometric functions and identities, as well as sequences and series. Additionally, students will master the fundamentals of probability and statistics and learn to apply them to real-world decision-making. A graphing calculator (TI-83/84) is required. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra 1, with a grade of 85% or higher. Please note that enrollment in this summer course is not guaranteed until the High School Director of Academic Programs reviews your student's middle school report card.
