Summer is an ideal time for kids to explore the world outside the walls of school. Students are encouraged to tap into their love of coding to learn skills that will help them long after they leave the classroom. Python is one of the most popular programming languages in recent time. The course includes topics such as computer programming basics, data types, variables, input and output, logical operators and boolean expression, conditional statements, string operations, loops, functions, classes and objects, procedural drawing (lines, shapes and colors, animation and program structure) and more. Students will complete a variety of fun and engaging coding exercises under the instructor's guidance and then explore and practice the concepts at their own pace. The exercises allow for a variety of learning styles and ability levels, so all students can build skills in writing, debugging, analyzing and comprehending code. The course will be offered in the recently upgraded Computer Lab at Peninsula High School / SMERT Building - T106. No previous programming experience is required, though students should expect to learn at a fast pace.
