The Colorado Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) Swim Team is designed to be a program with a strong recreational format for the non-ranked, non-sanctioned participant. Swimmers participate in two practices per week. Swim meets dates are TBD.Level of Instruction: Swimmers who are interested in participating in CARA
Each swimmer must have working knowledge of all 4 major strokes.
Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle2 of the 4 strokes - Swimmers must swim a total of 1 length (25 yards)The other 2 strokes swimmers must swim from the wall to the flags (7 yards)
Skill Assessment: January 27 from 4:30-5 p.m. at the Parker Recreation Center. Practice times will be assigned at swim assessments, all registered participants must attend swim assessments. Only swimmers that are registered will be assessed.
Season Dates: February 6 - April 4
Practice Times: Swimmers will be assigned to different swim teams based on ability level after swim assessments are complete. Practice times include:
- T/TH: 6:30 – 7:15 p.m. (Parker Recreation Center)
NOTE: You could be given any one of these practice times. Please ensure your schedule can accommodate all of these possibilities.
Skills/Fundamentals Learned: Swimmers will improve their endurance, strength and breathing techniques as they train on the following strokes throughout the season:
- Breaststroke
- Backstroke
- Freestyle
- Butterfly
- Starts and Turns appropriate for each stroke

Instructor: Swimmers are coached by staff members from the Parker Parks and Recreation Aquatics staff who are Water Safety Instructors, trained in swimming, diving, coaching, CPR/AED, and First-Aid.
