About this event
This two day course is designed to give you a basic understanding of chainsaw safety. It includes both theory and hands on practice. It is held at the Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project. The morning is spent introducing chainsaw safety basics. This includes, PPE, first aid preparedness, emergency planning, pre-start checklists and a discussion of wood fibre and tree physiology. In the afternoon we head outside and the participants learn how to develop a felling plan, practice onsite communication, and learn to fell using an open face notch and bore-cut. We also use this time to explore safety concepts, such as how to deal with by-pass, and how to develop a safe felling order. WE WILL PROVIDE: chainsaws and chainsaw helmets, if you need one. YOU MUST BRING: UL Certified Leg protection (either chainsaw pants or chainsaw chaps); either chainsaw boots or steel toes; gloves if you want them.
