Description
Learning to play the violin can be a fun and rewarding experience for a person of any age! Come explore this beautiful instrument in a relaxed, supportive setting. This course is open to people with no prior experience. You'll learn the basics through exploring folk music or "fiddle." Tunes will be taught by ear, with some introduction to music theory and reading music. Sheet music is available if you desire. Recordings of each class will be sent home weekly. Please do not buy a violin for this class. Participants must rent a violin from RL Ray violin Shop ($25 for the month) and purchase an adjustable shoulder rest prior to the first class (rental information will print on registration receipt). If you plan on using a personal violin or one borrowed from a friend or family member, it must be inspected by the violin shop prior to class to guarantee playing condition. If this is not the case, a rental will be required for class.
Participants must bring their own violin (or rent one - $25 for the month from RL Ray Violins) and adjustable shoulder rest (KUN, Everest, or FOM brands, or similar) to the first class. If you are using a personal or family violin, please bring it to RL Ray Violin Shop, prior to the first class, to have it tuned and inspected. If the violin is not in playing condition, and recommended repairs cannot be made, please rent a violin instead. Additional recommended supplies (optional): Handheld recording device (phone or otherwise), notebook, pencil. Instructor: Pamela Margon, www.olyfiddle.com
