Continuum Movement began with Emilie Conrad, a dancer whose fascination with movement guided her inquiry into the human body as a fluid system. Her discoveries offer new ways of accessing the bio-intelligence of the body through breath, sound, sensation and movement. Continuum is a somatic practice -- a way of getting in touch with the silent felt experience through proprioception. With the human body being at least 70% water - bringing more life to our 'inner sea' allows for innovation in movement and access to the natural sequencing of the body - 'the choreography of life.' In Continuum we work gently with sounds which we create ourselves through variations of breath. Each class will provide opportunities for dialogue and a 'dive.' In this series we'll explore the resources of gravity, breath and space. Offering Continuum Movement classes through McTavish Academy of the Arts feels like coming full circle from my first experience at McTavish School in 1985, teaching a grade one class. I'm amazed at the transformation -- my former classroom is now an art studio! I grew up and raised my family here on the beautiful Saanich Peninsula, and now live in Deep Cove. After retiring from teaching I became interested in Continuum while attending a workshop at Hollyhock, on Cortes Island. The following several years I traveled to Greece, taking part in the Continuum Teacher Training Program®. Completing the final modules just as covid was upon us, I began teaching online. Over the past three years it's been a joy to gather with others from around the world engaged in this somatic exploration. While continuing to teach online, I'm excited about coming together in person and the wonderful richness of what these experiences offer.
