Ages 7–9: Sky-High Science - Week 4

Corlears School • 324 West 15th Street New YorkNY  10011 Organized by Corlears School

About this event

In this specialty camp led by science teacher Theresa Law, rising second-through-fourth graders will upcycle simple materials to build wind-resistant "machines." Paper airplanes, propeller straw planes, kites, and more will be put to the test as campers use their creativity and smarts to practice the scientific method. To gain inspiration for their flying machines, our young scientists will go on field trips that may include a visit to the Intrepid Museum for their guided Sea, Air & Space tour, and a trip to Central Park to fly kites and test their creations. For their culminating activities, campers will demonstrate what they've learned by launching their final creations through the air from Corlears School's rooftop garden (weather permitting). But that's not all! The 7/8/9s also get to enjoy the classic day camp experience, including plenty of outdoor play, fun with friends, and the following: -Swim 2x/week at the McBurney YMCA -Soccer 2x/week led by SocRoc -NEW: STEAM-powered fun 2x/week in the Camp Corlears makerspace with The GIANT Room -Field trip 1x/week aligned with that week's specialty camp Designed for children entering second, third, or fourth grade in the coming school year. Extended care until 5 p.m. is available at a rate of $40/day. For FAQs and more, head here: https://www.corlearsschool.org/programs/camp-corlears#frequently-asked-questions
