Critical Thinking / Media Literacy (8th-12th)

Tusculum Church • 477 McMurray Dr NashvilleTN  37211 Organized by Southeast Nashville Homeschool Enrichment

About this event

This could be the most important class your student ever takes! This course will be an introduction to critical thinking skills. We will investigate and understand the differences amongst the following: fact, interpretation, evidence, perspective, opinion, bias, belief, prejudice, story, worldview, crowdsourcing, and expert consensus. We will learn the processes of critical thinking: analysis, interpretation, inference, explanation, self-regulation, open-mindedness, and problem-solving. We will practice thinking critically about real-world scenarios and current events. We will embark on a critical exploration of today's media landscape. In an age inundated with information, understanding how to navigate and analyze media content is essential. Through engaging discussions, interactive activities, and hands-on projects, students will learn to decode media messages, recognize bias, evaluate sources for credibility, and understand the impact of media on society and individual perspectives. From traditional news outlets to social media platforms, this class equips students with the skills to become discerning consumers and responsible creators of media content. Join us as we empower the next generation with the knowledge and tools to navigate the complexities of the digital age with confidence and insight! Instructor: Kendra Andrus
