Writing is an act of imagination; it builds from the raw materials of life experiences and language. In this class we will awaken our imaginations, read excerpts of good writing, and learn how to use literary devices. We will explore genre, plot, character development, narrative voice, point of view, world-building, and story-telling techniques. Students will learn strategies for generating ideas, and will practice responding creatively to writing prompts each week. We will also cover important writing skills for middle school such as note taking, summary, and persuasive writing. Students will receive teacher and peer feedback throughout the editing process. Whether you have a reluctant writer or a future novelist on your hands, they will grow as a reader and a writer through this course! Instructor: Kendra Andrus
