Art Portfolio Development Honors is designed for students who wish to enhance the development of their portfolio during the summer, which may be used for college submissions or for an AP course. This course begins with a brief review of all mediums, to ensure a solid foundation of advanced skills in every medium as well as creativity building exercises. Then, through guided sketchbook journaling, artists are encouraged to discover and identify their own artistic voice and learn how to use that voice to communicate through their art. Students select a topic of their choosing about which they have strong viewpoints, beliefs, interest, or feelings and create two to three pieces of work that communicate and express their topic, using a mastery of skills in any chosen medium. Emphasis is put on daily in-depth sketchbook development with both written and visual entries. Prerequisite: Drawing and Painting 1 and 2; portfolio review with teacher recommendation First summer session; 1/2 credit
