Improv Comedy Instructor Christopher Schiavo has over ten years of experience studying and performing improv comedy in Los Angeles, including at the renowned Groundlings Comedy Theatre, a training ground for such comic performers as Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman, and Melissa McCarthy. Chris performed in a long-form improv group in Los Angeles alongside Eric Stonestreet, star of TV’s “Modern Family.” Chris has also performed and coached comedy groups at Improv Olympic West in Hollywood, California. Here in Jacksonville, Chris has taught improv comedy workshops for Florida Blue and improv comedy classes at the University of North Florida, First Coast Technical College, and The Bolles School. In this class, students will be building on the understanding and skills acquired in Levels 1 & 2. Students will be taught new improv games that explore in greater depth the areas of character development, relationship, emotion, energy and commitment. Students will be moving toward a goal of improvising in “open scenes”: improvising without an explicit game framework but rather focus on being present, staying focused, listening, and looking for patterns or games that occur organically in scenes and heightening and exploring those patterns on stage. This Afterschool Adventure will culminate with a live improv showcase for families. For more information on upcoming improv classes and workshops, please visit his website at levelupimprov.com.
