Did you enjoy making music in an earlier time of life but things happened and you had to stop playing? Or have you always wanted to play with a band? The Iowa City New Horizons Band (ICNHB) provides an opportunity for chronologically gifted adults to refresh old skills, learn new skills or even learn to play a new instrument in the company of like-minded adults. The ICNHB is made up of 50+ year olds who enjoy playing percussion and wind instruments and we play many types of music. We practice on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Senior Center and often there is a social hour afterwards. In addition, there is the opportunity to join a smaller musical group that meets in the hour (8:30 - 9:15) before band practice. The ensemble groups are led by students in the UI School of Music and perform in a concert at the end of the semester. Our semesters finish with a concert that may be in a local park, the Senior Center, the Englert or the UI Voxman concert hall. The ICNHB band will begin rehearsing again on January 16, 2024 in the Assembly Hall of the Senior Center. There are no auditions to join the band. Please come and meet us and bring your instrument. We follow the New Horizons philosophy of ‘Your best is good enough’ while offering the challenging enjoyment of making music with others. For more information, please find at iowacitynhb.org.
