Forest Bathing (Shinrin-Yoku)
Franklin Recreation Complex 1120 Hillsboro Rd Franklin, TN 37064 Organized by Williamson County Parks and RecreationAbout this event
Description
We're sorry, but this activity is over. The last meeting was Saturday, April 20, 2024.
Forest bathing comes to us from a Japanese-inspired practice called Shinrin-yoku. It involves a guided walking meditation in nature and follows a set sequence of gentle, almost yoga-like activities. You will not walk more than 1/2 mile, nor will you exert yourself to the point of heavy breathing. This is a gentle & restorative activity. Research shows after forest bathing sessions people experience improvements in blood pressure, heart rate, anxiety, depression, blood sugar, cognitive fatigue, and improved healing after surgery or during cancer treatment. Your certified instructor will guide you through the sequence during the 120-minute session, attuning your senses to the more natural cadence of the outdoors. This guided sequence restores your body and mind to a peaceful state. Tension will melt away. The constant "brain chatter" will soften. You will remember what joy feels like. Your clothing and shoes must be appropriate for the season and the outdoors, as we often meander off paths. We wrap up the session with a tea ceremony and light snack.Children welcome, as long as an adult is also present. Activities will be age appropriate. Ages 5 and up.We will meet in the Lobby of the Franklin Rec Complex before going outdoors.**RAIN DATE 4/27**No Refunds will be given without 48 hours written notice prior to start of class to sharon.carolan@williamsoncounty-tn.gov
