Description

Be a part of a creative, energetic team, working together to support YMCA operations! The intern will be considered a member of the professional staff and have accompanying responsibilities and expectations which may vary throughout the internship.
Basic Learning Objects*

Operations Management and Administration

  • Support day to day operations in the YMCA including programming, facility upkeep and problem solving

Program Development and Delivery

  • Assist in planning and support of youth development programs managed by the YMCA.
  • Shadow and assist program staff
  • Assists with YMCA specific events including: GOTR/STRIDE 5K, Halloween at the Y, Healthy Kids Day, and FitJam!

Financial Operations

  • Shadow Leadership staff during monthly forecasting
  • Attend a Financial Review meeting
  • Complete season reports for programs upon completion with assistance from the program director.
  • Assist with creating Event budgets

Strategic Planning and Long Term Success

  • Develop Budget and Strategic Plan for a specific project deemed by the leadership team.

Students may also choose a specific concentration track including the following:

  • Brand Management & Virtual Y: The Intern will work closely with the Director of Marketing and the VP of Communications as well as interact with operations staff members as needed. Learn the importance of image and how to manage content.
  • Information Technology and Systems Management: The intern is responsible for assisting with multiple assigned project(s). Interns will be required to work in a time sensitive and rapidly changing environment. Interns must develop a thorough understanding of Information Technology best practices and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), focusing on learning how YMCA Information Technology runs, associated with the lifecycle of technology projects.
  • Human Resources: The intern will provide business management support for the HR department, working directly with the Director of Human Resources. The internship is an opportunity to gain hands on experience working as an integral member of the administrative team.
  • Facility Grounds and Maintenance: Electrical, HVAC, general upkeep, construction & special projects

*Hours and objectives are flexible depending on your internship requirements. Once you complete this application a YMCA representative will be in touch with you to discuss further. Completing this application does not guarantee you will be selected as an intern at the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. All internships are unpaid.
