Be a part of a creative, energetic team, working together to support YMCA youth development programs! The intern will be considered a member of the professional staff and have accompanying responsibilities and expectations which may vary throughout the internship.Learning Objects*
Program Development and Delivery
- Assist in planning and support of youth development programs managed by the YMCA. Duties will include day-to-day operations, site evaluation, supply management, and Pre/Posttest surveys distribution and collection
- Shadow and assist program staff
- Assist with staff and volunteer training
Financial Operations
- Shadow Leadership staff during monthly forecasting
- Attend a Financial Review meeting
- Complete season reports for programs upon completion with assistance from the program director.
Evaluation and Curriculum Development
- Perform program evaluations and complete a summary report at the end of each program
- Review curriculum and make suggestions based on industry best practices
- Implement curriculum with youth
Strategic Planning and Long Term Success
- Develop Budget and Strategic Plan for a specific project deemed by the leadership team. Example: Create a 3 year growth plan for a youth sports program
Students may also choose a specific concentration track including the following:
- Residential Camp
- Afterschool and Summer Programs
- Youth Sports and Sports Management
- Nutrition Programming
- Career and College Readiness (Teen Programming)
- Early Childhood / Preschool
Hours are flexible depending on your internship requirements. Once you complete this application a YMCA representative will be in touch with you to discuss further. Completing this application does not guarantee you will be selected as an intern at the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. All internships are unpaid.
