COURSE DESCRIPTION

This class is designed to instruct each student in using a variety of different formats to develop essential critical thinking skills to help them analyze problems and develop strategies to make good choices. The class uses the analytical side of the brain to enhance their problem-solving abilities. They will use critical thinking games to develop their ability to solve problems by changing the way they think. They will learn how the internet can be a source of information and how to determine if the information is true or false or difficult to determine if it is factual. The class teaches students to use verbal & visual clues to decide guilt or innocence using facts as a jury, not just feelings. Students learn to use facts to support their opinion about a subject. Students are taught to critically analyze movies for realism or unrealistic portrayals based on facts and science. The class teaches students about choices and the variety of information to process using a variety of factors in making decisions. How to respect others' opinions, different from their own, is covered. Also covered is learning how to interpret facts, being aware of surroundings for information to help in good decision-making, and that thinking before acting on what they think they see.
