Description
This class introduces the young to the sewing machine and is designed for teens but welcomes any participant ages 12 and older! Our project will be a decorative bed pillowcase constructed in a mysterious ‘burrito ‘ style that teaches how to sew straight open seams and enclose them into a French seam, so no raw edges are exposed.
The choice of contrasting or complementary fabric prints and colors makes it a visually pleasing and achievable first sewing project. Fabrics can be seasonal, holiday themed or personal color and print choices.
Participants learn how to : thread a machine, fill and insert a bobbin, test stitch by sewing straight lines on practice pieces of fabric before beginning the project. Then they will learn how to place the pieces together for the ‘magic trick’ of unrolling the sewn pieces to complete the finished product.
*In this introductory course, machines are provided but you may bring your own (list the make and model at the time of registration). Fabric kits are provided. Bring a snack and water, if you'd like.
