Description
Adult Trail Trekkers are adventuring offsite today to explore Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge located 1 hour and 40 minutes from McDowell between the piedmont and the coastal plain. Carolina Sandhills is a huge wildlife refuge comprised of 47,850 acres of longleaf pine forest. This refuge is home to 190 species of birds including the endangered Red Cockaded Woodpecker, 42 species of mammals, 41 species of reptiles, 25 species of amphibians, and over 1,000 species of plants. Participants should expect to hike between 7 miles of mostly flat sandy terrain. Transporation, a snack, and a naturalist guide are included.Pre-registration required.
Participants must be able to hike 7 miles on uneven terrain. Bring a bag lunch and plenty of water. Dress for the weather in McBee, SC. We will be in the sun quite a bit so don't forget a hat, sunscreen, and bug spray.
This hike qualifies for our 100-mile hike club. Come prepared to hike on uneven terrain. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Please bring your own water bottle.
