Adult Trail Trekkers are adventuring offsite today to explore South Mountain State Park located 1 hour and 30 minutes from McDowell located at the crossroads of the Appalachian Mountains and the Foothills in Burke County. South Mountain state park boasts elevations up to 3,000 feet, gorgeous cool clear creeks for dipping our toes, and an 80-foot gorgeous waterfall. Participants should expect to hike between 3-5 miles of mostly steep terrain that can get a little slippery at times near the waterfall. There are plenty of places along the trail to take breaks along with conveniently placed handrails. Transporation, a snack, and a naturalist guide are included. Pre-registration required.Participants must be able to hike 5 miles on uneven terrain. Bring a bag lunch and plenty of water. Dress for the weather in near Burke County, NC.
This hike qualifies for our 100-mile hike club. Come prepared to hike on uneven terrain. Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Please bring your own water bottle.
