About this event

Description

Active Minds: The History of Minstrel SongsIn this class we’ll examine the history of minstrelsy in American popular music from its origins in the 1830s. By looking at familiar songs many schoolchildren learned as folk songs, we will examine the use of racist stereotypes as well as performances by white entertainers in blackface in so-called “minstrel shows”.
This program is sponsored by Brookdale Meridian Boulder.

Welcome back! This MONDAY Active Minds program will be held in-person at the EAST Age Well Center.
