Intro to Mokulito (Wood Lithography)

Kala Printmaking Studio • 1060 Heinz Avenue 3rd floor BerkeleyCA  94710 Organized by Kala Art Institute

About this event

Mokulito is an amalgamation of the words “Moku” (Japanese for wood) and “Lito” for the lithographic process. Wood Plate Mokulito is a modern lithography technique where hand-drawn images are inked up on a wood plate and run through an etching press with paper to create beautiful prints. Acrylic paint, lithographic crayons, ink washes, and Relief carving are used to create marks to produce unique and very personal imagery. Come away from this class with the ability to create your own maple veneer wood plates, use a professional etching press, and 4+ of your own hand-made prints. Add an extra, more intricate dimension to your wood plate with a laser printed and inked polyester plate overlay on the existing wood plate. This class is great for both beginner or experienced artists or those who just want to try something new. All supplies are provided. Just bring your own drawings or creative ideas to the class.
