Handbuilding is the art of making ceramic forms without the use of a potter's wheel. Students will study the basics of building pots by pinch, coil, and/or slab built techniques, and learn the important safety guidelines and procedures of ceramics studio. For all virtual and onsite Pottery classes, the tuition includes a $98 pass-through supply fee, which covers the cost of one bag of stoneware, raku, or Lizella earthenware clay (first bags of porcelain are available for an additional $5 cost), glazes, and 2,000 cubic inches of firing space. The supply fee does NOT include tools, students provide their own tools. Additional clay and tools may be purchased from the studio (credit card only). All work fired at Callanwolde must be produced in the Pottery Program studios (no outside work allowed). Included Free Studio Access - (Wet Work and Glazing) Morning classes will have 1.5 hrs of free studio time after class, 12:00pm-1:30pm (Monday - Thursday Only) Evening classes will have 1.5 hrs of free studio time before class, 5:30pm-7:00pm (Monday - Thursday Only) All other times are Paid Studio Access. Paid Studio Access -$50- (Basement, Handbuilding Studios) Students may opt in for additional studio access time between morning and evening classes. Paid Studio Access Hours (Hours subject to change): Monday-Thursday: 12:00p-6:30p Friday: 9:30am-9:30pm Saturday: 9:30am-2:00pm Includes Sunday: 9:30am-2:00pm Students who do not opt for Paid Studio Access may use the studio without out charge 1 ½ hours after morning classes, 1 ½ hours before evening classes, and Sundays 9:30am-2pm. Monday-Thursday: 12:00pm-1:30pm, 5:30pm-7:00pm Sunday: 9:30am-2:00pm *NOTE* Evening Classes start at 7:00pm. Students that are not in evening classes must clear out of the studio before start time. Carriage House Wheel and Sculpture Studios are reserved for summer camp all day, M-F. Limited studio access during evenings only: 5:30pm-7:00pm.
