Come unwind, talk shop, network, and produce your own creative works in the embrace of our urban forest. Join educator and poet, Eder J. Williams McKnight in a workshop exploring how the skills of reading can connect us to nature and invite creative expression. We will apply what we know about literacy to experience nature in a fresh way. We will then use those observations to create poems, writings, even sketches inspired by our relationship to the forest. We will end with a reflection and celebratory share out. Eder J. Williams-McKnight is an educator and poet who elevates deep learning and transformational experiences. She is the Creative in Residence at the Klingenstein Center of Teachers College, Columbia University. Her work in education has included leading change in schools, competency based learning, experience-based learning, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and civic engagement. As a poet, she has collaborated with visual and dance artists to create multimedia works, and has been published in art books. Eder is interested in how the poetic mindset expands the way we read place, people, systems, and ourselves, and how it frees us to authentically connect, serve, and make impact.
