A2AC, Studio 303 • 117 W. Liberty St. Ann ArborMI  48104 Organized by Ann Arbor Art Center
Registration closed.

About this event

Explore the ancient art of Lost Wax Casting and create your own metal rings, pendants, charms, small sculptures and more! Students will begin by carving and sculpting a three-dimensional wax model of their desired form, which they will then cast in metal- either sterling silver casting grain or gold. Learn basic metalsmithing techniques to create a refined and finished piece. Students may make as many pieces during this course as time allows. No prior experience is required. Both beginning and continuing students are welcome! Supply Notes Your instructor will discuss what materials to purchase during the first night of class. Students are responsible for purchasing their own casting metals (either sterling silver casting grain or gold) and may need to purchase additional materials based on their design ideas. Scrap metal may be used for casting only with permission and approval of the instructor. This class includes 26 hours of Independent Jewelry Studio time outside of class. Casting will only take place during class time. Students may work on wax sculpting or refining cast projects during Independent Studio hours. These hours are non-transferable and expire at the end of the term. No casting will take place outside of class, however students may work on their wax models or refining their cast pieces during independent studio hours. View Independent Jewelry Studio Hours
