About this event
This class is preparing students to take a full year Marine Biology Course starting in the fall of 2024. Target Ages: 8-18 Years Homework: Hybrid online and in person class. Families will need at least one account in the Homeschool Hub for the online class portion. If multiple older students of similar ages are taking the class each may need their own Homeschool Hub account. The family can attend class together, online content and labs are modified by age group. Register children 8-18 years. Reading of two chapters (8ish pages) a week in the book Pagoo (provided). Occasionally other reading articles will be assigned. Pagoo makes a great read aloud for the family if that is preferred. There will also be a video to watch at home each week. Some weeks we produce our own video content. Quizzes and Tests: Each week a 10 question quiz will be given online. A 50 question test will be given at the end of the class. Questions will be based on at home reading, videos and in class learning from the week before. For 8-11 Years most questions will be multiple choice, older students will be expected to do more writing with short answers and paragraphs. Quizzes and Tests will be "open book", though if a student relies on this instead of doing the work in advance they won't do well. Don't get too intimidated by these quizzes and tests. This is a good opportunity for students who are nervous about reading, quizzes and tests. As long as the student attends class and does the reading (or is read too) they are likely to do well. Test taking strategies will be taught through the quizzes as well. Grading: Optional Each parent will get to choose if they want their students work graded. Regardless of grading all students will be building a portfolio of their work which can be printed and used to satisfy some of the state requirements.
