13 sessions/Spring semesterOur art lessons are taught by instructors who have studied art in college. They have a deep understanding of the classical principles of fine arts and love working with kids. We want our young artists to express, explore and build their skills in equal parts. Our curriculum is designed for teaching fine art concepts in a systematic and fun way. Our teaching artists also love to share their particular art specialties with the kids. We want our young artists to feel a sense of accomplishment and also understanding of concepts as they do art with us. In a typical class we will present a concept and illustrate it with a project. For example the concept of value is illustrated with a project that emphasizes light and dark and a gradient value scale. While at the same time creating something relatable such as a droplet with chalk pastel. They keep their class projects in a portfolio file which goes home at the end of the term. Any free draw projects can go home the same day.
In drawing & painting class we will start with sketching and end with acrylic painting. In between we introduce the student to various art mediums including watercolor and charcoal. We teach them about color theory, how to work with a brush and other fine art skills. Also, we use artist quality materials in our lessons. This means more pigmented colors. Higher quality art materials equate to a richer learning experience which brings more joy. Our classes are designed to be repeated so kids continue to build on their skills.
Drawing and painting are core subjects that enhance your child’s fine motor skills, their life skills and also hone their observation, coordination and give them an appreciation for beauty.
