These two semester courses are for rising seniors only, and students must enroll in both of them for the onsite program. If you would only like to take one of the classes, you may do so through our online program. Students can finish this class (receiving credit for both American Government and Economics) in only four weeks, due to the exciting new format of our onsite history classes. An excellent teacher will be guiding students directly in the classroom through a program called UC Scout. Although students do not physically attend class after July 11 (end of the fourth week), anyone who has not completed the course by then will have until July 25 to finish online. Please note that students cannot work ahead of the four-week pacing guide, nor can they fall behind the six-week pacing guide. American Government provides perspective on politics and government in the United States. It compares systems of government in the world today, and analyzes the changing interpretations of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and current state of the legislative/executive/judicial branches of government. The course also promotes familiarity with the various institutions, groups, beliefs, and ideas that make up the American and comparative political system. Economics is designed to help students become responsible/effective decision makers. It provides an understanding of supply and demand, scarcity, the role of the marketplace, competition, and consumer choice. The course also covers inflation, unemployment, measures of national wealth, the economic role of the government, international trade/finance, personal economic decision making, investments, budget, job choice, and consumer information. We reserve the right to combine or collapse courses due to insufficient enrollment and to reassign staff as necessary to better ensure
