About this event

Description

We're sorry, but this class is over. The last meeting was Saturday, April 20, 2024.

In this class we will explore some of the creative possibilities of hand printing images without a press. The process is called a monoprint because each image cannot be repeated exactly nor can it be editioned. This is not a precise art form and lends itself to experimentation and playfulness with various techniques and layers of color. All inks used are water based. We will use plant material as stencils and offsets to create unique and mysterious images that appear somewhat photographic. The transfer of ink to paper is accomplished with an inked matrix and a wooden spoon and/or a baren. Each class member will end the class with several handprints that they are proud of to frame or give as gifts.

Suggested Techniques:

Soft leaves or petals, live plant material as stencils.
Positive and negative leaf form transfers
Stenciling with cut or torn paper
Splotting or trailing with ink
Soft brush and juicy washes of ink.

Participants will be provided with the materials they will need including archival paper, and inks as well as the plant materials and the necessary tools, such as barens, and brayers for inking.

$75, includes instructions and all materials.Walk-ins accepted if there are available spaces.
